Answer The Questions

Answer the questions:
1. What triggered the ban?
After a moddle dide druing a show in South Americk.

2. What is BMI?
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a number calculated from a person’s weight and height. BMI is a reliable indicator of body fatness for people. BMI does not measure body fat directly, but research has shown that BMI correlates to direct measures of body fat, such as underwater weighing and dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA).1, 2 BMI can be considered an alternative for direct measures of body fat. Additionally, BMI is an inexpensive and easy-to-perform method of screening for weight categories that may lead to health problems.
3. What BMI should a model have to be allowed to participate in fashion parades in Spain?
Above 18 BMI.

4. What’s the average height, weight and BMI of a runway model?
The average height is 5’9”, the weight is 110 lbs and BMI is 16.

5. What are arguments for and against?
The arguments are for criteria of BMI and ban. Many models have complained that this ban discriminates against those who are naturally thin, so they don’t sign up.

6, check the meanings :gaunt – excessively thin and angular. Emaciated-extremely thin and weak. Wan-pallid and tired looking.

7, how can you calculate someone’s BMI?
Formula: weight (kg) / [height (m)]2
With the metric system, the formula for BMI is weight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared. Since height is commonly measured in centimeters, divide height in centimeters by 100 to obtain height in meters.
Example: Weight = 68 kg, Height = 165 cm (1.65 m)
Calculation: 68 /(1.65)2 = 24.98

In my opinion fashion show is a public activity, it has aroused people to following do something, so we need healthy moddles but moddles of gaunt, emaciated and wan, thry are not healthy.

Eat Healthily

Hot Chips Cause Cancer:
A newly suspected substance, acrylamide is found in French fries. Acrylamide is used to make plastics and dyes, how is it getting into chips? Many scientists believe it has something to do with the cooking process. In tests McDonald’s chips had the highest level of the chemical, but the McDonald’s spokesperson said it is safe food.

Take-away Food May Damage Eyes:
Researchers of Japan found that eye sight can be damaged by eating a lot of monosodium glutamate (MSG). MSG is commonly used to enhance the flavour of food. It is often used in Chinese take away. Scientists are quick to point out that we would have to eat very large amounts of MSG to suffer eye damage.

I believe scientist’s opinion that the hot chips and MSG are dangerous to our body. I think if you don’t want to get hurt you must avoid eating these kind of food.

The Queen

The Queen is a narrative movie base on a true story. It seems revisits Britain following the death of Diana and the many things that happened in then...

On 31st August 1997 Princess Diana died in an accident in Paris. It startled all over the world. Most British people demanded for an overt display of mourning to grieve over her. But HM Elizabeth II and her family didn’t do anything and stayed inside of the palace. So public was very angry and started to oppose the royal family. It was a serious matter to the new Prime Minister Tony Blair; he knew that he must find a way to reconnect the royal family with the British public. He persuaded the Queen to mended the relationship of the royal family and the public. Finally the Queen changed her mind and held a ceremonious funeral for Diana. Altogether "The Queen" displays the conflicts between tradition and modern, royal family and common people ...

Helen Mirren acts as the queen and she has won the best actress Oscar in 2007. Stephen Frears is the director. The film has won the Golden Globe Award.

Two pictures show that some people went to the local polling booths to exercise their right and responsibility last Saturday, and a few of the candidate's pictures were standing on a pavement., they are from all different parties of Australia. I'm interested in the elections and the voting system. It is fair for every citizen and politician, because citizens can choose a politician if they like ; and you must do right things for people if you want to become a politician.

My hometown: Shanghai

I was born in Shanghai, which is on the east of China. It is the biggest city in Asia, which means it is heavily populated; there are 16 million inhabitants there.

Shanghai is a beautiful city, there are six bridges over the River Huang PU that link two parts of Shanghai together. On the western bank of the Huang PU river, there are over 30 older buildings along the river that have been there for 130 years; On the eastern bank of river, many new skyscrapers stand near the river, that mixture of old age and modern time architecture is quite magnificent. Also Shanghai is a modern city; you can buy anything like cars, watches, perfume, diamonds and all luxurious goods which come from other countries.

A long time ago, Shanghai's main industries were financing, commerce and manufacturing. Now the financing sector has been developed a great deal more than other economic sectors. Banks, that are amongst the 20 biggest banks in the world, set up business in Shanghai, and there are many opportunities of profiting in the stock market that attracts people who came from all over the world.

There are many things to do and places to see in Shanghai, such as Yu garden which is a traditional Chinese garden built in 1559; Formula 1 and Moto GP car races are in the top class of world car racing. If you like food Shanghai is a good place to be, you can taste so many different types of Chinese food in Shanghai, e.g. sweet, hot and many other tastes of food. You won't be disappointed.

People may want to ask what the weather is like in Shanghai. It is very mild in spring and autumn, but it could be very warm in summer and winter is cold. Sometimes the temperature drops to minus 8 degrees. People are very friendly and they always treat the visitors with respect.

Answer the questions about “Australian English at the beach”
1 I understand the meaning of all the signs, but some, such as “Shark Alarm” “A crocodile has been sighted in this area”, I hadn’t seen before .

2 Not all signs are used in Sydney like “A crocodile has been sighted in this area”.

3 I think most of the signs are used in my country, but I’m not sure because my hometown doesn’t have surf beaches.

4 I did the quiz of “The Aussie Cozzie”, I'm interested in it, because it helps me to understand the story; learn some new words and know the history of the Aussie swimming costume.

5

They were all wearing swimming costumes , but the man in left picture is wearing bathing trunks, the one on the right is wearing a neck to knee swimming costume.
The woman on the left is wearing a one piece swimming costume, while the one on the right is wearing a neck to knee bathing suit. Notice the different swimming caps. The more fashion is the left than right.
